7 Creative Strategies

The 7 creative strategies are ways to help create visual interest to a piece. The 7 creative strategies are:
-Combination
-Juxtaposition
-Isolation
-Metaphor or Simile:
-Change of Context or Environment
-Physical/Shape Similarity
-Material Change, Swap, or Focus

In this project, we used these 7 strategies using one simple everyday item. This item was used to design solutions that expressed meaningful ideas.
The first strategy is Combination. Combination is a way to bring two different items together to create one new object.
In this combination, the coconut was used to look like the scoop part of the ice cream and works because coconut milk has become a huge component to many ice cream treats.

The second strategy is Juxtaposition. Juxtaposition is about showing contrast and differences in items.
This solution works so well because the lava is very shocking compared to what should be in the tub ice cream. I loved being able to showcase the difference of burning hot lava to freezing cold ice cream.
The third is Isolation. Isolation makes the viewer focus on an element within the composition.
This solution is great for isolation because the ice cream scoop is in color, while everything else is black and white. This really isolates and focus the viewer on the ice cream scoop.
Next is Metaphor or Simile. This strategy is about showcasing meaning behind the object in your composition.
I love this solution because I had a quote on my wall growing up that said, " You cannot buy happiness, but you can buy ice cream and that is kinda the same thing." This is why I think it is perfect that the scoop is in the shape of a heart.
The next strategy is change of context or environment. Change of Context or Environment is a way to take the item and place it in an environment that it would normally not be seen in. The contrast of the unnatural is a way to highlight a concept.
This composition works well because an ice cream scoop is usually not used for gardening. However, it does not look completely displaced as it is about the same size as a garden shovel.
Next, we have Physical/ Shape Similarity. Physical/Shape Similarity is a way to showcase the similarities between two items that would not normally connect together.
This composition showcases how an ice cream scoop and a light pole in a neighborhood can be very similar.
Last but not least is material change, swap, or focus. Material change, swap, or focus changes an item for another item.
This solution is great because the ice cream scoop has now become a syringe. The handle of the scoop is is the part that fills up. The material change is a focal point of the piece.

Overall, the 7 creative strategies help you find ways to create visual interest while showcasing a simple product. These strategies and beneficial in great design.
